Properties of synthetic fabrics

Synthetic fabrics are those that are man-made. They have a high absorption capacity (about twice as much as cotton), consume less cleaning agents as they have a high cleaning capacity and have a high resistance to frequent washing. They can be washed at temperatures up to 95º, which makes them extremely hygienic. They have a high absorbency, so synthetics are good for drying or cleaning, and do not shrink or swell. Synthetic fabrics are widely used, especially in sanitary utilities, such as in the manufacture of face masks.

Some of the most famous synthetic fabrics are:

Polyester

It is the most widely produced and used synthetic fiber in the world. It is obtained from petroleum derivatives. It does not shrink, dries quickly and is resistant to UV rays.

Polyamide

It is commonly known as Nylon (nylon). It is a solid, lightweight fiber, absorbent and strong, and like polyester, it wrinkles little. It has a soft feel and is non-allergenic. It is also easily recycled; you can find a variety of recycled polyamides in our catalog.

Acrylic

It is often used alone or blended with other fibers such as wool. Unlike normal wool, it is a vegan fabric, since it does not come from animal origin. It is soft, silky, light and warm to the touch, dries very quickly and does not wrinkle so it does not require ironing.

Elastane

It is a fiber created to replace latex. Other names for elastane that you probably know are “Lycra” or “Spandex”. This fiber is known for its high elasticity and strength, and is widely used in sportswear.

Viscose

Viscose is a type of semi-synthetic fabric, so it is half manufactured, half natural, as it comes from vegetable fibers, created as a cheaper artificial alternative to silk.

Velvet

Velvet is a soft, short-pile, dense fabric, which can be obtained from natural and man-made fibers, or with a mixture of the two.

Are synthetic fabrics sustainable?

Synthetic fabrics are not the most environmentally friendly, but they are very practical, and there is a way to obtain them much more sustainable: with the use of fabrics, that is, with textile circularity. By taking advantage of synthetic fabrics already produced, you will avoid the pollution and consumption of resources involved in the creation of new fabrics. In our catalog you will find exclusively reusable and circular synthetic fabrics, in different colors, prints and properties so that you can adapt them to your fashion creation needs.
